ImageFlooding and damage at the "Bingen West" marina
DateJanuary 30, 1965
PerspectiveFacing Southwest (toward Hood River)

A breach in a dam above White Salmon resulted in significant flooding and damage at the "Bingen West" marina. The partially submerged end of the boat ramp appears in the lower left corner while the heavily damaged dock can be seen running from right to left near the center of the picture. Estimates at the time indicated nearly 11,000 cubic yards of debris were deposited in the marina. This disaster occurred on the heels of flood damage to the "Bingen West" properties sustained just over one month earlier in December 1964. These two events, combined with other factors, ultimately led to the sale of the "Bingen West" properties to SDS Lumber over a period of years, beginning just two months after this photograph was taken.
